Registration now open for August 1 Read to Me training
Read to Me is sponsoring a training session August 1, 2008 for library staff who will be participating in the Read to Me First Book program and the new Every Child Ready to Read Project. Idaho at the National Book Festival
The 2009 National Book Festival was held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Marj Hooper and Pam Bradshaw from the Idaho Commission for Libraries represented Idaho in the Pavilion of the States, promoting reading, sharing information about Idaho literacy and library programs, and answering questions about Idaho writers and libraries.

ILA Session - Jumping Off the Page - Storytimes
Second session at ILA was with Erin Archambeault from Ada Community Library. She shared some of her favorite storytime books, craft ideas, and activities. Erin had all of us jumping around the room, dancing, singing and playing just like the kids from her storytimes at the library. I had a lot of fun and the participants seemed engaged and inspired by the presentation. Thanks Erin!

Majority of babies born in Idaho receive assistance from WIC
In 2008, 58 percent of babies born in Idaho received food assistance from Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program during their first year. WIC services are provided by the seven Idaho public health districts and two Native American health agencies. There are more than 50 clinics located across the state. WIC serves mothers of children prenatal to age five.
A Book on Every Bed
National advice columnist Amy Dickinson’s “Ask Amy” column promoted a great idea -- "A Book on Every Bed." Here’s how it works:
Idaho Community Foundation Grant Cycle Open for Northern Idaho
The Idaho Community Foundation (ICF) grant cycle is now open for the northern Idaho counties of Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, Idaho, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce and Shoshone. Deadline to apply is Jan. 15. In the last grant cycle, ICF awarded nearly $112,000 in grants to 77 organizations in northern Idaho, including several to Idaho libraries.
Annual Read to Me Meeting set for March 1 – 2, 2011 in Boise
For the past 13 years, the Read to Me program has sponsored an annual training meeting. This year the meeting is designed to build the capacity of libraries to provide information on the six early literacy skills to Idaho families through outreach and at the library. Here’s an overview of the meeting content:
My First Books (formally Read to Me First Book) Applications for 2012-2013
My First Books is a Read to Me program that has been successfully implemented since 1997. Formerly titled "Read to Me First Book," this program strengthens partnerships between public libraries and local schools, preschools, Head Start sites, and child care providers.

Accepting Applications for New "Six Skills Tubs" Pilot Program
Read to Me is launching a new pilot program that allows libraries to deposit and rotate tubs of books and materials in local daycares (details, eligibility, and application below). Here is a short overview:
Program- Libraries will rotate six tubs of books and other materials, each focusing on an early literacy skill, throughout local daycares. Tubs and contents provided by Read to Me.
Hispanic Outreach and Library Activities (HOLA) Group forming
HOLA is a support and learning group facilitated by the ICfL Read to Me program. The group is designed to provide the library community with the opportunity to help develop a statewide initiative on how to better serve Hispanic population in Idaho.

All Idaho libraries offering summer reading programs must submit a SRP report to ICfL by August 31, 2011. You can access the report on our Summer Reading web page. This report contains 30 questions.

Record Number of Children to Participate in Read to Me First Book Program
A record number of Idaho children from birth to kindergarten will be
participating in the 2011-2012 Read to Me First Book program. Approximately 3,100
children will receive a book each month during the upcoming school year,
provided by Read to Me and distributed by 32 Idaho libraries. This is an
increase of over 500 children from the previous year.
