The Future of Libraries

In light of the smashing success of Teens & Tech Week, plus a recent article on FaceBook mentioning libraries, I (your new teens coordinator) did some research. Find out more:

Filtering Trends in Schools

Will Richardson (www.weblogg-ed.com)has started a project called "Mapping the Filter: What Do You Block?" I would encourage Idaho school librarians to take a look at the site and add their data to his map if you can! He is just looking for a general sense of "low", "medium" or "high" level of filtering and any other specific information you care to supply.

Paint the State

On April 19, the Idaho Meth Project launched a statewide public art contest—Paint the State—that encourages Idaho teens to create artistic representations of the dangers of methamphetamine use. Idaho teens ages 13–18 will have the opportunity to create highly visible public art that communicates a strong anti-Meth message surrounding the theme: “Not Even Once.”

      Facebook for Libraries

David Lee King wrote a great article for American Libraries called Facebook for Libraries. This is a "soup to nuts" article that discusses why Facebook is a great tool for libraries, how to set up a page and how to administer content.

2011 Teens and Technology Summary Report

What a great Teens and Technology course we had this year! Here is a snapshot of some of the data and information that was collected through evaluations and surveys.

GREAT Idea for a Teen Event!

I absolutely love this idea developed by teen services staff at Seattle Public Library. What a great way to engage teens and get them reading. Sounds like alot of fun too.  Here is a brief description of what they are doing:

Teen Read Week Registration OPENS August 19!

Teen Read Week is October 16-22 and this year’s theme is Picture It @ your library. We have jumped on the bandwagon and tied this year’s project to photography. The ICfL wants to know if you are going to participate in TRW this year! We collected some great baseline data on library and teen participation last year and want to continue gathering information on teen services.
