BTOP grant proposal update

Our Public Computing Center application has passed the first step of the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program evaluation process. As of May 18, our application is in the due diligence phase. In the next few days we expect to receive a Supplemental Information Request with the reviewers’ follow-up questions.

Urgent! Public Libraries Must Respond by July 2 to be part of the BTOP Candidate Pool

All public library directors should have received an e-mail last Friday addressing the candidate pool for our Broadband Technology Opportunity Program (BTOP) grant proposal. Over the spring we’ve heard from a number of libraries that their reported connectivity speed is incorrect.

ICFL is Awarded BTOP Grant Project

The Commission’s Public Computing Center BTOP project was among the grant awards announced by Vice President Biden today. The grant of $1,907,531 will expand broadband and computing capacity in Idaho’s least connected libraries and expand LiLI online resources statewide for K-12 students and job seekers. Our content partners include the Idaho Department of Labor, Adult Basic Education, Idaho Public Television, and the Idaho Regional Optical Network.     The Idaho Commission for Libraries—along with nearly 150 Idaho state leaders, grant partners, and public library directors from many of the smallest and most rural libraries in the state—is launching the “online @ your library” broadband project on November 1 and 2 at a launch workshop in Boise sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

    On February 1, Apangea Learning will kick off the Idaho vs. Indiana i2 Math Challenge. The state whose students earn the most Apangea Points will be rewarded with the i2 Trophy, a visit from the other State's Superintendent, lunch served by dignitaries, and the pride of winning!

    E-Rate funding in Idaho

    So far in Wave 1 of 2011 E-Rate funding, 57 public libraries have received funding commitments. Most schools or libraries have more than one funding request. There is a separate funding request for each vendor and, depending on the service (e.g., telecommunications or Internet), a library may have two or more funding requests for the same vendor.

      3rd Annual Idaho Math Cup: November 1-30, 2011

      On November 1st 2011, Apangea Learning will kick off the 3rd Annual Idaho Math Cup. Students across the state will compete for the title of Idaho Math Cup Champion. The winning class receives the Idaho Math Cup and an awards ceremony where each student will receive special recognition, complete with customized certificates and t-shirts.
