Registration now open for August 1 Read to Me training
Read to Me is sponsoring a training session August 1, 2008 for library staff who will be participating in the Read to Me First Book program and the new Every Child Ready to Read Project. Governor presenting checks to libraries in Hayden, Lewiston
Governor Otter is presenting checks to library directors in Hayden and Lewiston this week. They were among 30 libraries awarded Read to Me mini-grants of $5,000 from a state appropriation.
SPLAT 101 registration tops 100

The Read to Me program has paperback copies of How I Became a Pirate, by Melinda Long for Idaho public libraries who are planning events during Idaho Family Reading Week, November 16 – 22, 2008. Just complete the form by October 29th and we’ll send you books to give to families.
Too cool – get to vote and pick up books at the same place
I’m a big fan of Ada Community’s Express Service. Today I got to vote at my regular polling place and then pick up my books in the same trip. Too cool! I use the service all the time. One of the drop off / pick up return stations is within walking distance of my home, so I can walk the dogs, burn some calories, and pick up my books in the same trip.
Nez Perce Country is a great book for Idaho libraries
I purchased a copy of Nez Perce Country, by Alvin M. Josephy Jr. after reading a great review of the book in Multicultural Review. I thought it would be a good Scoop incentive book and ended up taking it home and reading it.

2009 was a tough year for ICFL and most libraries across the state, but there were also a lot of good things that happened last year. Here are 10 that came to mind.
Library Construction Projects Have Been Fun to Watch
We’ve enjoyed watching construction projects progress at several Idaho libraries via their great blog sites and in the news. This week the citizens in Plummer were invited to a ribbon cutting to open the new Plummer Public Library. This construction project has been a goal of the library board for over ten years.

I've been a Judy Blume fan forever and I have really liked all the one-hour webinars that Booklist has sponsored this year, so this one should really be a treat.

Registration has closed for Monday's workshop in Meridian, but it's not too late to sign up to attend a great day of Summer Reading learning and sharing in Pocatello, Coeur d'Alene or Moscow. Majority of babies born in Idaho receive assistance from WIC
In 2008, 58 percent of babies born in Idaho received food assistance from Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program during their first year. WIC services are provided by the seven Idaho public health districts and two Native American health agencies. There are more than 50 clinics located across the state. WIC serves mothers of children prenatal to age five.

Idaho Community Foundation Grant Cycle Open for Northern Idaho
The Idaho Community Foundation (ICF) grant cycle is now open for the northern Idaho counties of Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, Idaho, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce and Shoshone. Deadline to apply is Jan. 15. In the last grant cycle, ICF awarded nearly $112,000 in grants to 77 organizations in northern Idaho, including several to Idaho libraries.
Annual Read to Me Meeting set for March 1 – 2, 2011 in Boise
For the past 13 years, the Read to Me program has sponsored an annual training meeting. This year the meeting is designed to build the capacity of libraries to provide information on the six early literacy skills to Idaho families through outreach and at the library.
