        Call for Ideas: 2012 Adult Summer Reading Programs

        The CSLP (Collaborative Summer Library Programs) is looking for more ideas for the adult summer reading program manual from CSLP. The theme is “night” and the slogan is “Between the Covers”. Attached is what they have so far. Please ignore the December 15 deadline.

        Read to Me Receives Simplot Employee Donation

        The Idaho Commission for Libraries would like to thank the employees of the Simplot Order Management division for their cash donation to the Read to Me program. Each month the employees in this division can purchase “Jeans Day” stickers, and the proceeds are given to a charity of their choice.

        My First Books (formally Read to Me First Book) Applications for 2012-2013

        My First Books is a Read to Me program that has been successfully implemented since 1997. Formerly titled "Read to Me First Book," this program strengthens partnerships between public libraries and local schools, preschools, Head Start sites, and child care providers.

        Need staff for summer programs?

        The Idaho Department of Labor is seeking partners for its 2011 Idaho Youth Corps summer employment program. The program requires matching resources from federal, state or local government and private employers. The combination supports work experience wages for eligible youth enrolled in the department’s Workforce Investment Act job programs.

        Accepting Applications for New "Six Skills Tubs" Pilot Program

        Read to Me is launching a new pilot program that allows libraries to deposit and rotate tubs of books and materials in local daycares (details, eligibility, and application below). Here is a short overview:

        Program- Libraries will rotate six tubs of books and other materials, each focusing on an early literacy skill, throughout local daycares. Tubs and contents provided by Read to Me.

        Summer Reading Program Report Due August 31

        All Idaho libraries offering summer reading programs must submit a SRP report to ICfL by August 31, 2011.  You can access the report on our Summer Reading web page.  This report contains 30 questions.

        Record Number of Children to Participate in Read to Me First Book Program

        A record number of Idaho children from birth to kindergarten will be
        participating in the 2011-2012 Read to Me First Book program. Approximately 3,100
        children will receive a book each month during the upcoming school year,
        provided by Read to Me and distributed by 32 Idaho libraries. This is an
        increase of over 500 children from the previous year.

        2012 Summer Reading Manuals

        Summer Reading Program manuals have been shipped out to every publicly-funded public library in Idaho. Manuals are addressed to the library in general and not a specific person, so please keep an eye out and give your mail processing person a heads-up.

        Read to Me First Book Program Evaluation, 2010-2011

        A comprehensive program evaluation of Idaho Commission for Libraries' (ICFL) Read to Me First Book program was conducted by Boise State University Literacy Professor Dr. Roger Stewart. Dr. Stewart has been collecting data regarding the First Book program and other Read to Me early literacy programs for three years; he has compiled his findings in annual reports for 2008, 2009, and 2010.
