My First Books (formally Read to Me First Book) Applications for 2012-2013
My First Books is a Read to Me program that has been successfully implemented since 1997. Formerly titled "Read to Me First Book," this program strengthens partnerships between public libraries and local schools, preschools, Head Start sites, and child care providers.

Read to Me Annual Meeting, March 5 – 6, 2012
For the past fifteen years, the Idaho Read to Me program has brought together library staff from around the state who are actively reaching out to Idaho families to promote early literacy, or who would like to begin early literacy outreach efforts.

ICfL receives donated books from Barnes & Noble Holiday Drive
ICfL’s Read to Me program is the recipient of this year’s local Holiday Book Drive at the Boise-area Barnes & Noble store. Barnes & Noble has sponsored a Holiday Book Drive for several years.

Your Library May Be Eligible for Summer Food Program
Did you know? Currently over 50% of Idaho's children are eligible for federally-funded food programs!
During the school year nutritious meals are available through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. But those programs end when school ends for the summer. The U.S.
Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program helps fill the hunger gap.

Read to Me First Book Program Evaluation, 2010-2011
A comprehensive program evaluation of Idaho Commission for Libraries' (ICFL) Read to Me First Book program was conducted by Boise State University Literacy Professor Dr. Roger Stewart. Dr. Stewart has been collecting data regarding the First Book program and other Read to Me early literacy programs for three years; he has compiled his findings in annual reports for 2008, 2009, and 2010.

2012 Summer Reading Manuals
Summer Reading Program manuals have been shipped out to every publicly-funded public library in Idaho. Manuals are addressed to the library in general and not a specific person, so please keep an eye out and give your mail processing person a heads-up.

Family Reading Week CDs Are in the Mail!
The Commission just mailed out hundreds of Family Reading Week CDs to each publicly funded public and elementary school library. The CDs are filled with planning and marketing information, programming ideas, literacy materials, and other resources. So keep your eyes out--they will be in your mailbox any day now.
