April is Financial Literacy Month

On April 3, 2013 Lieutenant Governor Brad Little read Governor Otter's proclamation stating that April is Financial Literacy Month in Idaho. He also recognized the winners of the Idaho's 3rd Annual Piggy Bank Beauty Contest. About 50 members of the Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition, representatives of Get $mart Idaho, representatives of public libraries, contest winners and their families, and others with an interest in promoting financial capability in Idaho turned out for the Proclamation Reading.

Since 2010, the American Library Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago have collaborated to sponsor Money Smart Week @ Your Library during the third week of April; this year it's April 20-27. The week focuses on libraries of all types presenting programming in support of financial literacy.

This year the Idaho Commission for Libraries joined the initiative to encourage Idaho libraries to participate in this week. Twelve public and school libraries from around the state are participating and have received posters and bookmarks to help promote the events within their communities. "Money Smart Week @ Your Library" bookmarks are still available.
