ILA Preconference on Utilizing Volunteers Announced

The Idaho Commission for Libraries is hosting a free half-day pre-conference at the Idaho Library Association's annual conference this October. The conference will be held at the Nampa Civic Center October 3-4, 2013. The preconference is scheduled for Wednesday,  October 2nd from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

VM LogoJennifer Bennett, VolunteerMatch (VM) trainer extraordinaire and guru on everything related to volunteers, will be leading the workshop in collaboration with Sue Walker and Erica Compton of the Commission. The focus of the workshop will be on the importance of effectively using volunteers in your library.  Topics include: why volunteers are important; how to recruit great volunteers; and how to retain them. We will also cover information on effectively using the VolunteerMatch accounts that have already been purchased for each public library in the state.

Jennifer Bennett will also be available in the afternoon to work one-on-one or in small groups with libraries interested in delving deeper into volunteering. Topics could include: how to write an attention-getting position description; how to post pictures to your VM account; or how to build support for your volunteer program.

Any library interested is welcome to attend. Registration information will be available soon.
