Does your library have a webcam?
I'm working on a project to test how well webcams would work for communication between the Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICFL) and the Idaho library community.
If you/your library has a webcam and would be willing to help us with one or two short online meetings, please contact me.
What I'm asking of you:
- 15-30 minutes of your time
- Be sure you have a webcam, speakers (or headphones), and microphone (possibly attached to your headphone) connected to your computer.
- Be sure you can access Meebo.com and have a Meebo account (it's free and web-based)
- Test talking/listening online by having a short conversation about anything at all "Can you hear me now?" works, but we can be more creative.
- Test the video by sitting in front of a working webcam as if willing to be seen and agree to let us know if video of ICFL staff is working properly
- Be flexible in case things don't work great at first.
What you shouldn't do:
- Do not go buy a webcam and other equipment just to help us test.
- Worry about how you look on the camera, we've likely already seen each other in real life and we can't wait to see you, that very same person, on our computer, too.
We're testing as we can and it's not a huge rush, so right now I'm looking to see who might be able to help us out when we get to that part. And, we may not need everyone (provided all works well) and, of course, we expect schedules will vary.
Thanks!

I'd be interested to see how
I'd be interested to see how this comes out. My brother owns a cabinetry shop and a couple years ago we were floating the idea of setting up a sort of "shop cam" where users could go to the website and see their cabinets or furniture being worked on. Needles to say we never actually got around to doing it, but I wonder how hard it is to get done?
