LiLI Database Selections for July 2011 - Update

The following is an update on the LiLI Database Selection process.

Background:

The contracts currently in place for the LiLI Databases content will expire June 30, 2011.  The Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICfL) released a Request for Proposals (RFP) in February inviting proposals for content to replace those contracts beginning July 1, 2011.

RFP Process:

Proposals received were thoroughly evaluated for technical merits, functionality, usability, and content. The proposals were reviewed by a team that included both ICfL staff and members of the library community from all types of geographic locations within Idaho.  After evaluation scores were tallied, selections were made taking into consideration the identified topic priority areas, available funding, and evaluation results.

Sole Source Content:

In addition to the RFP, the Commission received approval from the Idaho Division of Purchasing to contract with Ebsco for their Ebscohost content as it is the sole distributor of some content identified as a priority for the LiLI Databases.

LiLI Database Content for July 2011 (so far):

At this time the following content is planned for inclusion in the LiLI Databases beginning July 1, 2011.  New contracts will be for a 2-year period, with the option to renew for 5 additional 1-year periods after that.

Readers Advisory and Auto Repair Content:

Proposal evaluators were dissatisfied with the products proposed for both auto repair and readers advisory for reasons including cost and/or content/usability.  For this reason, the Commission will release 2 additional requests for quotations to seek content to fill the need identified in those areas.  Success with these additional efforts will hopefully result in additional content announcements for a July 1st start date.

Implementaiton Details:

Training - Will be announced when scheduled.

Migration and authentication - ICfL staff are working to supply vendors with the authentication information for those libraries that require unique authentication for their users.  Libraries utilizing the LiLI Portal at www.lili.org will not need to make any changes.

Promotional materials - ICfL staff will have a promotional plan and announce any available materials as they are available.

LiLI Portal - The LiLI Portal will have some changes to reflect the new content and make improvements to the interface.  If you are interested in assisting in the testing of the site, please contact ICfL Web Developer at lili@libraries.idaho.gov.

Trials/Demonstration Access before July 1st - ICfL staff will work with vendors to make trials access available during the transition prior to July 1st. Availability will be announced as soon as it is ready.

Any additional questions about the LiLI Databases and upcoming changes can be directed to Gina Persichini, ICfL Networking Consultant.
