Try the new NetLibrary Media Center to download eaudiobooks!
There are a lot of good things coming for the LiLI eAudioBooks Collection users. The first thing is Media Center.
Media Center is a new interface for users to search for and download their NetLibrary eaudiobook content. It’s not yet in its fullest form – updates will be available over the coming weeks as new features are added and existing features are improved. I’m told that mid-March will be a much fuller release, but for those interested in trying it out early, you can start using it now. Here’s what you can do:
- Read about Media Center and the system requirements.
- Watch the online video demonstration.
- Request Media Center be activated for your library’s account. Activating Media center does NOT affect your current method of download – both options will be available to users. To request your activation, you will need your NetLibrary Library ID; that number can be found when you log in to check your statistics in the Library Resource Center. If you don’t know your Library ID or can’t find it, contact Gina Persichini or NetLibrary at 800-848-5800 (option 7).
- Try Media Center. Once it's activated, go to NetLibrary.com, find a book, check it out, then follow the directions to download Media Center to your PC.
The full version will be available in Mid-March 2009. At that time, Media Center will automatically be available on all library accounts.
What else is coming?
- February – March 2009: Part of the Idaho collection of eaudioboks will be available DRM-free. That means they can be downloaded and played on iPods and Zunes!
- Mid-March 2009: DRM-free titles will be searchable in that way, meaning that users with iPods will be able to limit their search to just those eaudiobooks that play on their devices.

iPods and Zunes?
We have successfully used Media Center to download titles and once it is set up it works very nicely. Much less cumbersome. Any word on how soon we'll have DRM-free titles for iPod and Zune? We are anxiously awaiting...
A couple months ago, ICFL
A couple months ago, ICFL was informed that DRM-free titles would be added to the LiLI eAudioBooks Collection in March 2009. I have not yet had an update on the expected release of those titles and wait anxiously along with you!
iPods
The version of Media Center released in April 2009 supports the iPod nicely. It looks like NetLibrary has more than a thousand books for iPod. Download their new version from the NetLibrary website. It doesn't look like they support Zune but not much does.
