Free Workshop on October 5 from 8:30 am to 4 pm at the Boise Centre - provided by the Idaho Commission for Libraries and a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.  This is one of three preconferences prior to the Idaho Library Association Annual meeting in Boise.

The future coming like a freight train!  If you want to be on that train, rather than in its path, you’ll plan ahead and build capacity using all the means at your disposal.  A future-focused, strategic approach to choosing partners and designing collaborative projects can help you unlock hidden assets, tap new funding sources, and improve services for your community, even in the face of economic challenges. If you want to be at the table – instead of on the menu! – and respected as a go-to-partner for achieving positive results, then this workshop is for you!

Joan Frye Williams, internationally-recognized library consultant and futurist, will facilitate this highly interactive day-long session.  Working on your own and with colleagues from all types of libraries, you will learn how to

  •  identify and leverage your library’s existing assets,
  •  respond positively to the trends most likely to impact libraries in the future,
  •  identify strategically valuable partners, and
  • design mutually beneficial collaborative projects.

Using scenario planning, sustainability checklists, and other problem-solving techniques, you will learn what makes a partnership work, how to collaborate without getting overextended, and how to position your library as a vital key to the future success of your community. You will come away with practical tools and examples to take back to your library and apply immediately to the process of positive change.

The future is coming, whether you’re ready or not.  Why not get ready?
