Started the day with Legislative Committee which included information on telecommunication and broadband (i.e., regional cooperatives, rural broadband deployment, network neutrality),reauthorization of LSTA, e-rate, and copyright.

Next on my list was Library Reorganization Project, 2010-Style -- a report from Public Library of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County on how they implemented organizational change. An excellent presentation depicting vision, team building, and collaborative spirit in the process of implementing organizational change for a system with over 500 people and 24 locations. The four core components include engaging the community, organizational resources, research, innovation and strategy, and library experience. Primary goal is to provide seamless customer service, focusing on the the customer's library experience -- did it meet their needs and would they return. Planning was intensive and they are now in the implementation stage.

Afternoon was spent at the OCLC Library 2.0 Roundtable -- using the World Cafe model to talk about best/worst practices in using 2.0 tools. One idea was the use of Flickr to show pictures of new books and the notes field to provide descriptons -- pushing this out the library users. Also talked to individuals who were familiar with ICFL's e-branch in a box program.

Gaming is a focus of the vendor exhibits with a plethora of ideas on implementing gaming programs.

ALA President-elect Jim Rettig is focusing on advocacy.
