Community Campaigns for Grade Level Reading's picture

Dear Idaho Library Community:

As you know, Read to Me received a National Leadership Grant to increase Idaho children’s access to print materials and strengthen early literacy skills. “Routes to Reading” has three components: 1) Books to Go; 2) TumbleBooks and; and 3) Coalition-Building and public awareness. The first two “routes” are well underway and we are receiving very positive feedback from our libraries. Thank you for helping us to make those first two routes successful!

Route #3 is our next focus area. We are working with Idaho Voices for Children, Idaho Kids Count, and Idaho’s Early Childhood Coordinating Council (EC3) to facilitate regional coalition-building events designed to bring together library staff and trustees, business people, school staff, parents, policy-makers, and other stakeholders who are interested in partnering to increase the number of children reading proficiently by the end of third grade. These events, somewhat similar to the Credible Connections sessions hosted by ICfL last year, will help create community-based task forces that are action-oriented and meet the needs of individual communities in Idaho.

It is our vision that Idaho libraries are the central hub of these task-forces, bringing together those who are currently working toward reading proficiency, those whose resources are yet untapped, and those who will help sustain the efforts of the group in their community.
