Read to Me Evaluation Tools now in Spanish!

For those libraries participating in Every Child Ready to Read and Read to Me First Book, the parent evaluations and surveys are now available in Spanish. They can be accessed on each program's individual webpage (Programs and Services/Read to Me/First Book or Every Child Ready to Read)

If your library is offering lapsits or multiage storytimes, we have designed evaluation tools for these programs as well. They are available in both English and Spanish, and can be accessed on the Read to Me webpage under "Resources."

In the School Zone section of the Oct. 10 issue of The Scoop, we talk about the importance and benefits of collaboration. We'd love to hear your personal stories of successes and challenges. This is also a great opportunity to practice blogging for those of you taking the Splat 101! course...!

Teens and Technology

If you read the recent issue of The Scoop, you probably saw the SPLAT article about the new technologies that all librarians should be aware of and utilize:
Blogging, RSS and RSS Feeders, IM – Meebo, Online Applications, Wikis, and Tagging. Though I may have once been considered young and hip, I have to admit that I can't get my RSS feeder page to load, this is only my second blog ever, and I have absolutely no idea what Meebo is. It seems like it wasn't THAT long ago that I was a teen (ok, so my idea of technology back then was to be able to make a mixed tape of the radio hits of the '80's), but I can no longer look the other way when teennagers roll their eyes at my lack of with-it-ness. I must do something before my five year-old is able to outsmart me with technology! If you're in the same wiki boat as me, I invite you to register for the "New Technologies and New Literacies for Teens-2009" course, which begins in January. Please see the Teens and Technology link for more information. Hope to see you there- TTFN! (I hope that means Ta-ta for now, but I'm not really sure...)

Banned Book Week: September 28 - October 4

As I was preparing a list of banned/challenged books for the September 26th ediition of The Scoop, I ran across an interesting statistic. In the ALA publication, "Books Challenged or Banned in 2007 - 2008" Robert Doyle states, "Surveys indicate approximately 85 percent of the challenges to library materials receive no media attention and remain unreported." It left me curious- Are there children's and young adult books not on this list that have been recently challenged in Idaho school and public libraries?
