HB 60 http://legislature.idaho.gov/legislation/2011/H0060.pdf has been signed into law and will change some of the dates for elections. (It is retroactive so is in force now instead of on July 1.) Previous law stated that nominations would have to be filed by 5 p.m. on the sixth Friday before the election. The new law states that nominations must be filed on or before the ninth Friday preceding the election. 

With that change (effective February 24!)  the County Clerk must publish the notice of candidate filing deadline for the May 17 election during the week of March 4-11 in the official newspaper(s) of the political subdivision. (Sec. 34-1405, I.C.).

Your County Clerk might need from you the name of the official newspaper for your district, as well as a contact name and phone number.  Idaho code states that this must be received in writing.

A candidate must file by March 18 for the May 17 election. Several county clerks have suggested having the candidate take the petitions to the county clerk prior to the 18th for verification of signatures, and then take the petitions to the district by 5:00 p.m. March 18.
