Region 4 Conference

I may own a first. Yesterday, at the ILA region 4 conference, Anthony Doerr signed my copy of his eBook Four Seasons in Rome.A signed eBook! I had to assure him that it was more than O.K. To write on my iPod Touch case. (I took a photo of the signed case with my cell phone, sent it to my email, opened the email on my iPod, and saved the photo. So now I have an eSigned eBook.)
Anthony Doerr is Idaho's writer in residence, lives with his wife and
twin sons in Boise, and was our excellent luncheon speaker at the
conference. He spoke about magic. Most specifically about the magic
of reading. His piece was so inspiring and relevant to what we do that several people metioned that they want a copy of it. He used an extended analogy that led from books being like a drug to readers being junkies to librarians being drug dealers. It was hilarious. I'll never look at book-talking in the stacks in quite the same way.
Since I was on the planning committee, I don't trust my own opinion
that it was a terrific conference. It would be great if those who
attended could spare a few moments from their busy drug-dealing
activities to blog or comment about their experience - more than the
conference evaluation allows. Or maybe tell about something new and
inspiring that they'll be putting into action in their library.

Region 4 conference
I really enjoyed the conference--the only difficulty was deciding what session to attend! Thank you so much planning committee for putting together a smashing line up of presentations, great venue, and terrific people!
Awesome!
It was fun to see your signed touch case and I'm so glad you blogged about it! You're rad! As always...
