New Themes for Let's Talk About It Programs

Idaho Let's Talk About It is happy to announce new themes for 2007-08 programs.  We hope to have the final books (8 for each theme) selected by June 1.

Across Cultures and Continents
More diverse communities, a global economy, immigration issues and war are just a few factors raising our awareness of other cultures. Books provide a great window into other cultures and viewpoints. This theme will focus on voices from other countries and cultures, including such titles as: The Kite Runner, In the Time of the Butterflies, and Nectar in the Sieve.

Contemporary Western Voices
Building on the popular “Idaho, Tough Paradise,” this theme will add books published in the past decade, including those by Idaho authors Kim Barnes, John Rember, Mary Clearman Blew, Ron McFarland, and Susan Swetnam.

Our Earth, Our Ethics
Climate change, species diversity, conservation, geography and a sense of place will be examined though books like: Desert Solitaire, Artic Dreams, and A River Runs through It.

We Are What We Eat
Although our cuisine has expanded over the past 20 years and we are more aware about how and where our food is grown and produced, food is still central to how we express both our individuality and our cultural and family traditions. The books selected for this theme will explore the role food plays in nourishing and sustaining us both physically and figuratively. They include: Chocolat, Tummy Trilogy, and My Year of Meats.
