The VISTA Routes to Reading Assistant will help to implement an important new
program bringing early childhood literacy to rural low income Idaho children
and their families. Our VISTA will assist ICfL early childhood literacy Program
Coordinators to implement Routes to Reading in rural libraries and childcare

The Idaho Commission for Libraries is conducting an evaluation of the use of Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds, as specified in the Commission’s LSTA Long-Range Plan, 2008 -2012. 

Jump Start program gets the word out

 The Jump Start program encourages parents of children registering for kindergarten to “Get a Jump Start on Reading @ Your Library.” Participating libraries visit local elementary schools where they provide early literacy packets to parents and a free copy of Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come! by Nancy Carlson to each child during kindergarten registration.

Annual Read to Me Meeting set for March 1 – 2, 2011 in Boise

For the past 13 years, the Read to Me program has sponsored an annual training meeting. This year the meeting is designed to build the capacity of libraries to provide information on the six early literacy skills to Idaho families through outreach and at the library.  Here’s an overview of the meeting content:

Read to Me Support Materials

A limited supply of support materials is available at no charge to Idaho public libraries, schools, and reading partners. First priority for distribution of materials will be to support literacy outreach efforts. Materials are not to be charged for. Quantities are limited and the Commission for Libraries may adjust amounts sent at any time.
