Libraries, Wireless Networks and Patrons....

This is an interesting blog post (Tame the Web) about the ability to use or not use wireless networks at libraries, along with the barriers encountered.

Patron uses own Wireless network. IT to Patron: Use our Network or Go Home.”

Once again it is the point of accessibility, along with broadband width. While some corporate structues are working hard to keep their customers in their stores (Barnes & Noble), what will libraries be able to do to provide their customers Internet access while balancing the IT policy. Autonet Mobile is the latest for wireless in your car -- regardless of your location.

Food for thought.

Everything is wireless these days. It's not too far when our TV will be wireless too. My university(UNBSJ) library started it's wireless access facility for students last year. The signal was not good at the beginning but it's very good now. Although there are some security issues regarding data hijack, i think it was a good decision overall.
