It can be challenging trying to blog at a conference such as this. I had a post just about ready to publish when the network went down and I lost it. (Just the post, fortunately!)

So here goes a quick recap of some of the recurring themes and buzzwords:
Social computing and active participation: blogs, flickr, del.icio.us, tagging. Folksonomy.

Libraries need to make things easy for our patrons and not throw barriers in the way, e.g. locking down computers so that they aren’t useful, no ability to burn CDs or download utilities, no floppy or flash drives.

Create technology free spaces and an environment for contemplation.

Podcasting, smart mobs, instant messaging - ways to reach our customers or have our customers reach us.

I appreciated the comment this morning that technology is trying to create the algorithmic equivalent of a good librarian, and that tools augment rather than replace the human touch.

    Library automation

Wouldn't it be nice if library could provide you with the google-like search and ability to preview scanned books online without needing to borrow and search through tens not relevant books at the library. Sending reminder SMS notification would help to avoid problems with overdue borrowed books. Finally library could offer a selection of relevant books based on archived borrowing history adding value each time to it's customers.
