Bright Futures Summer Reading Opportunities: Read for Your Library!

books and banner

This program encourages public libraries to partner with up to 3 elementary schools, in order to garner support for summer reading from school administrators, teachers and parents.

By teaming up with your elementary school administrators and staff, your library and your partner school can each earn up to $300 in hardback books for your collections! You and your partner(s) will also each receive a 24"x60" vinyl "Be Creative @ Your Library" banner.

Requirements:

  1. Librarian must mail a support letter from the school principal to ICFL by March 17 (see Tips for Schools attachment below).
  2. Librarian must submit Idaho Reading Indicator scores of all partner schools. These should be included in the on-line application. Go to http://www.sde.idaho.gov/ipd/iri/IriAnalysis.asp to find your schools' scores.
  3. Librarian must meet with principal to set participation goals for each partner school.
  4. Librarian must work with principal(s) to set up a fall recognition event at each school.
  5. Librarian must track student participation for each partner school and submit the number to ICFL by September 20, 2009.
  6. Librarian must make at least one spring presentation to parents, educators, administrators or community members at a place other than the library. The presentation can be anytime in the spring before the summer reading program begins. Presentations to children do not meet this requirement.

Resources: A 2009 PowerPoint Presentation for parents and community members is included below as an available resource, as well as a short PowerPoint for educators and tips sheets for schools. You can download the 2009 Summer Reading PSA for kids here. Download high resolution and Spanish language versions here.

To apply, fill out the on-line application and submit by March 17, 2009. You may apply for as many Bright Futures programs as you'd like using this single on-line form.

Supplies are limited! Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis; once supplies are depleted, applications will no longer be accepted.
