New Technologies and Literacies for Teens

The Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICFL) will offer public and school librarians an exciting opportunity this winter. A cohort of 20 people will participate in an online class February 1-28, 2010 to learn how teens’ use of technology to play, learn, and create improves their text-based literacy skills. This group of people will meet face-to-face in Boise before and after the online course. ICFL will pay the course registration fee, plus travel and related expenses of the two meetings in Boise. Participants must enroll with a partner from another library. Partners can be from the same or different type of library.

Note: This course will require at least 3 hours per week to complete. Enrollees who do not present a program during Teen Tech Week (March 7-13, 2010) will not be reimbursed for travel to the meetings in Boise.

Registration Deadline: Friday, December 18, 2009. A confirmation will be sent by Monday, December 28, 2009.

I’m willing to develop a teen program for Teen Tech Week, March 7-13, 2010. I understand I will not be reimbursed for travel to the two meetings in Boise if I do not present a program during Teen Tech Week. A program is a one time or ongoing series of events designed specifically for teens and incorporating one or more of the technologies discussed in the course.
