Year-Round Underserved Pilot Program Application

The Read to Me Program has had some requests to utilize books for outreach programs, similar to what we offer as part of the Bright Futures “Underserved” Summer Reading program. Many libraries are trying to do more outreach throughout the school year as well as summer and this program provides resources to enhance these outreach visits and increase the number of families with access to books in their homes.

In order to receive the free books, library staff members need to complete a one-page application and follow up with a short summary report after your event. Books will be distributed based on availability and merits of the application. We’ve been lucky to receive extra bonus books from Scholastic to support this project, but titles are limited and there may be limited selection depending on age groups requested, etc.

First priority for books is for libraries doing outreach to underserved children outside the library (i.e. visits to Head Start, WIC, daycare, teen parent outreach). Second priority is for libraries hosting an event or field trip at their library for underserved children or families. Third priority is for school and community events that target underserved children or families. Partnering with a public library is required for those events. After your outreach visit or event, we require participants to complete a short form found at www.surveymonkey.com/s/year-round-2011.

You might want to print this before you hit the submit button so you have a record of what you requested. We’ll send you an e-mail confirmation within 24 hours of getting your application.
