Signs at the Library: Making It Count
Fail Forward
We’ve all been there. You pour your heart into a program, and no one shows up. You try something new, and you fall on your face. Sound familiar? Fail Forward is the place to share your failures, and give you the opportunity to share what you learned from them. Did you promote your program in a different way after no one showed up? Maybe you took a new approach to the new thing you were excited about? Awesome! Share your story via our online form so others can learn, and realize that failure is often part of the process.
Iteration
Our IT guru at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, award-winning librarian Christopher Brannon, made practical use of our 3D printer to make new holds shelf markers. Previously we had laminated sheets, and now we had some fancy 3D-printed ones to help show off our new makerspace and 3D printing equipment. Problem was, the letters kept snapping off from the base. Rather than scrap the project, Christopher evaluated and iterated, strengthened the structure without adding size or taking from aesthetics, and we are now on our third and best iteration. Success and failure are a continuum, not a finality- there’s always room to iterate and make the next version a little better.
Crush Corner
Is there a library you follow on social media who is always doing new and exciting things? How about a blog you follow that inspires you in the work you do? Library Crush Corner is a place for those working in Idaho libraries to share what inspires them, and who they’re crushing on… in a professional sense. Share your story via our online form so we can publish it in a future issue!
Lake Hazel Branch Library Teen Programming Team
It’s true, I have a crush on the Lake Hazel Branch Library teen programming team. Their murder mystery and after-hour programs sound like a blast-I’d certainly attend if I were a teen. I appreciate their effort to dive into current teen trends and be creative with programming and view them as a great resource for program ideas. Thank you Lake Hazel!
