Lifeline

Lifeline is a federal program dedicated to making phone and internet service more affordable for low-income households. This benefit provides eligible consumers with a monthly discount of up to $9.25. Consumers living on Tribal lands are eligible for an enhanced discount of up to $34.25 per month.

Who is eligible?

You are eligible for Lifeline if one member of your household:

  • Has an income that is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines;
  • Participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance, or Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit;
  • Participates in Tribal specific programs, such as Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, Head Start, Tribal TANF, or Food Distribution Programs on Indian Reservations

Which phone or internet providers are participating?

Various providers are participating in Lifeline. Depending on where you live, you may have a choice of providers. Check with mobile or broadband providers in your area to learn about their plans and eligible service offerings.

How do I apply?

Applications are accepted online, via a paper form, or by contacting your phone or Internet Service Provider. USAC’s applications are available in English and Spanish.

What happened to the Affordable Connectivity Program?

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) was a federally funded program that offered a monthly benefit to eligible households. Without congressional funding, the ACP ran out of funds in April 2024.
