LITT: Libraries in Idaho Talking Trends

Expectations for Use

The Libraries in Idaho Talking Trends (LITT) community is made up of Idaho library staff with a diverse set of skills, personalities, and experiences. It is through these differences that our community experiences great success and continued growth. Overall, we are kind to and respectful of each other. We contribute to this community not because we have to, but because we want to. If we remember that, these guidelines will come naturally. 

As a state agency, the Idaho Commission for Libraries is providing this Listserv as a place for Idaho library staff to have open discussions on topics that impact their work in libraries and build their capacity to better serve their communities. Posts not falling under this purpose, or violating use expectations, will be removed at the discretion of the moderator. Posts to these Listservs are the opinions of those posting and do not imply endorsement by the ICfL. 

Before you post, think about what you are posting: 

Who these Listservs are/ not for 

  • ARE FOR people working in Idaho libraries 
  • ARE FOR library school students 
  • ARE FOR Idaho library trustees 
  • ARE FOR ICfL Staff 
  • ARE NOT FOR vendors promoting goods/ services 

How to use these Listservs

How NOT to use these Listservs

  • Information sharing 
    (“Here’s  a bill impacting  libraries  being brought forward by legislators A and B.”) 
  • Education 
    (“My library is thinking about buying this new thing, does anyone else have it? What do you think of it?”) 
  • Asking questions of your peers  
  • Move conversations forward: keep posts on the LITT topic 
  • Political organizing/ advocating/ lobbying (“Here’s  a bill impacting  libraries , and we need you to contact your legislators.”) 
  • Advertising (“This vendor asked me to pass along this deal to you.”) 
  • Posting items unrelated to the LITT topic 

When you’re working with members of the community, we encourage you to follow these guidelines, which help steer our interactions and strive to keep this LITT a positive, successful, and growing community.
