Greetings, Idaho Library Community,

If you are a library director/manager/point of
contact for all things OCLC, you should have received your annual renewal
notice for ShareIdaho, Idaho’s Group Services Agreement with OCLC, via email
today. If you did not receive this notice, and think that you should have,
please let me know. If you do not intend to make any changes to your OCLC
subscription, then your task is easy: do nothing! If you do wish to make
changes to your OCLC subscription, please notifying me in writing (email is
fine!) no later than May 1, 2018. This is important, as unless this is
communicated, your current subscription for services will be automatically
renewed on July 1st.

Your library will be billed directly by
OCLC.  Please send your payments to them. This year, there will be
a choice of billing options: annual, semiannual, quarterly, or monthly. Please
advise which option you prefer, and please also be advised that these options
will not alter the July 1st renewal date (and commencement of the
new billing cycle), regardless of billing option selected.

As you may be aware, the ShareIdaho Management
Center, the Idaho Commission for Libraries’ managed ILL service, launched in
November 2017. For those libraries trying to determine whether this might be
the best subscription option for them, I wanted to emphasize a few key points
to consider:

  • The program was designed
to save libraries that anticipate conducting a low volume of ILL
transactions (40 or fewer) the cost of a full OCLC WorldShare ILL
    subscription
  • Per OCLC policy,
libraries participating in managed ILL services are not eligible to
    participate as lending libraries
  • Libraries choosing this
subscription have limited independence in managing their ILL transactions:
they submit their requests to our Management Center, at which point the
requests are routed to prospective lenders
  • The original plan was to
charge libraries participating in the ShareIdaho Management Center a $4
fee per transaction; while we may (or may not!) return to this at a later
juncture, this transaction fee will be waived altogether for Fiscal Year
2019, as we concentrate on improving the program

Also, please be advised that there is a
wealth of information about the various ShareIdaho participation options, as
well as training and support, on our website: https://libraries.idaho.gov//shareidaho
