Idaho libraries are the nexus of global information, innovative services and community, enabling us to sustain our history, empower our present, and create our future.

Do you enjoy reading the Curiosity Report? Do you see change as an opportunity to learn and grow? Are you constantly learning new things? Do you like sharing what you’ve learned with others? Great, you should apply to be one of three (3) new SPLAT members!

What is SPLAT?

The Special Projects Library Action Team (SPLAT), sponsored by the Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICfL) and funded in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), is a collaborative team of Idaho library staff that regularly meets to discuss emerging trends in libraries, talk through “what if” scenarios about the future, and writes for the Curiosity Report (our newsletter). We are currently soliciting applications from individuals working in publicly-funded libraries (including school, academic, tribal, prison, and public libraries) in Idaho to serve a three-year term on SPLAT.

Who should join SPLAT?

Library folks…

  • with any experience, from those new to working in libraries to those with decades of experience.
  • with any education level, from those without a degree (and no interest in getting one) to those with a MLIS and/or PhD.
  • in any position, from library pages to library directors.

The SPLAT team is composed of a diverse group of Idaho library staff that seek to have representation from all geographic areas, all types of libraries, all sizes of libraries, and individuals in differing stages of their careers. These varied perspectives strengthen the group by enabling members to address a multitude of needs that are found within our library communities.

What are the criteria to volunteer to serve?

  • Employed by a publicly-funded library in Idaho.
  • Willing to provide time to research trends and innovations in library services, as well as share that knowledge with the Idaho library community through a variety of venues.
  • Have the support and approval of your supervisor, library, and/or Board of Directors.
  • Complete the online application by 5pm January 31, 2024.
  • Ability to meet virtually once a month for one hour, and face-to-face 2-3 times during the year (ICfL will reimburse travel costs).
  • Demonstrate a passion for library work, innovation, and change.
  • View library work from a statewide perspective – the 25,000 foot level!

SPLAT members pledge to:

  • Build their own expertise in innovative practices
  • Share their expertise and experiences with their colleagues in the Idaho library community
  • Use their expertise with library customers in their community on a regular basis

If you are interested in serving a three-year term on this statewide committee, please complete the application and submit by January 31, 2024.
