JumpstartIt’s that time of year! Though Jump Start Kindergarten is open for requests year-round, this is the most common time for schools to host kindergarten registration and family night events and for public libraries to collaborate with school libraries to help spread the word about library resources for this age group. Consider requesting materials soon!

Jump Start Kindergarten provides public and school libraries with free books and literacy resources for caregivers of upcoming kindergarteners. This program is a great way for public libraries to partner with other literacy-oriented organizations or schools! This year, we have a new title available for libraries to request: Bear About Town by Stella Blackstone. It is available as both an English-Spanish bilingual or as an English-only option. In addition, the ICfL has copies of King of KindergartenNuestro Autobús, and DJ’s Busy Day (for the younger siblings)…and of course, we have the two-pocket Jump Start Kindergarten resource folders available again for the library staff to stuff full of great resources!

You can see photos of these books, review the eligibility and reporting requirements, and see other other early literacy resources available on our Jump Start Kindergarten webpage.
